Oh great, Amy Poehler is going to ruin TWO shows
Seems Amy Poehler has been tapped to star in the Office spinoff. It's not enough that she ruined SNL by mugging it up in nearly EVERY FREAKIN' SCENE last season, but now she gets to ruin a primetime show! Bravo, NBC! Though to be fair, the idea of an Office spinoff seems horrible to begin with, so why not? What could it hurt? Hell, if it means she'll appear in fewer SNL sketches, then it could be a great move.

And WHY does NBC feel the need to destroy The Office, anyway? Judging by last season's hit and miss episodes, they ought to concentrate on fixing the original before spinning off a NEW series.

I'll post a new Todd and Penguin comic later tonight.

TV funny and not so funny
random thoughts on TV ...
Dealing with insomnia, I found myself awake at 2 am the other night and caught the Fox News show, Red Eye.

The premise, I believe, is that the show is supposed to be hip, funny, irreverent, and just like Real Time with Bill Maher or The Daily Show, but just from a right wing point of view.

Given that I am more of a centrist, or, in some cases, left-leaning, I'm probably not their target audience. This might mean I'm just not right enough to get the jokes.

Which might be why I didn't laugh.

Or, and here is a better guess, the show just isn't funny.

Not just un-funny, but painfully un-funny.

The host and his panel of un-funny right wingers TRY to be funny. They dish sarcastic comments, they work blue, saying things which I imagine would offend many of Fox News' hardcore viewers.

But they just aren't funny.

They come off as know-it-all obnoxious asses at best.

Even when they joke about things that nobody with a right mind can dispute, like the fact that Britney Spears has lost her friggin' mind, they just don't make me laugh.

I wonder if this is how right wingers view liberal leaning comedians.

Maybe when you know the political leanings of the comedian, if it opposes your sensibilities, you just won't like it.

I'd like to think that isn't the case - that humor can transcend right or left and just be funny.

It's not that I hate the show. I don't care enough to hate it.

The panel are really among the dumbest, least funny people I've seen on TV. They make Lou Dobbs look like a comic genius.

I will say this, though, I have now watched two episodes of the show this week and will probably watch again tonight.

on another note.

I was watching Dateline this week, which featured my lovely town of Flagler Beach, and Chris Hansen was interviewing one of the people who allegedly came to a house looking for sex with minors. The guy, who was a bit confused reached out to shake Hanson's hand when Hanson said "I'm Chris Hansen from Dateline."

So Hansen reached out to shake the guy's hand, and absentmindedly said, "Nice to see you."

Tonight on TV
Tonight on Tyra: Tyra views the mysterious world of witches and talks with its proponents.

Or...
Tonight on Tyra:
Tyra and her "spooky" attention seeking lonely-because-they-want-to-be-anything-more-than-normal guests have a dumb-off to see who can say the dumbest thing. My money's on Tyra, who just took offense in a "Oh no you didn't girl" moment when a witch had the audacity to say her witchcraft was like Christianity. Ooh, that witch!! Tyra stopped the girl dead in her tracks, and told her that some people are gonna' take offense... Uh, oh, maybe a debate... wait, no...now there's a "witch" who realized she had powers following this day when she had a feeling someone might die and someone did. She is talking in the dark, holding a candle to reflect light upward onto her face to be all spooky-like creepy music plays in the background.

Verdict on who would say something dumber: Draw.

Move over, Jon Stewart, Dave has found something even funnier to watch.

I stand corrected
It's not often that I'm wrong on celebrities, but I have to admit, I may have been wrong on Justin Timberlake.

Yeah, it pains me to no end to admit this. BELIEVE ME. However, his appearance on a pretty funny Saturday Night Live this week was pretty impressive.

I'll give you a moment to digest what I just wrote.

Yes, not only was Justin Timberlake impressive, but SNL was also funny!

The odds of these two events happening are pretty astronomical, but yet, it has happened.

First, there was Timberlake's D*ck in a box Digital Short .

Then he played 2 songs rather impressively. I don't particularly like his music normally, so I'm not sure if the songs were good or SNL was implementing some new subliminal technology which rendered my tastes numb. Here's a link to one of the songs, in case you want to judge for yourself. Feel free to tell me if I've been brainwashed. PLEASE!

And while I can't find a link for it, Daryl Hammond's impersonation of Lou Dobbs on Weekend Update was DEAD ON PERFECT!

I'm going to go now and rescue my mascilinity by watching some football.
